India, formally called the Republic of India, is the country that occupies most of the Indian subcontinent in southern Asia. In terms of its population , India is one of the most populous nations in the world and falls slightly behind China. India has a long history and is considered the world's largest democracy and one of the most successful in Asia. It is a developing nation and has only recently opened its economy to outside trade and influences. As such, its economy is currently growing and when combined with its population growth , India is one of the world's most significant countries. These societies were mainly composed of ethnic Dravidians who had an economy based on commerce and agricultural trade.

India lies on the Indian Plate , the northern part of the Indo-Australian Plate , whose continental crust forms the Indian subcontinent. On the south, India projects into and is bounded by the Indian Ocean —in particular, by the Arabian Sea on the west, the Lakshadweep Sea to the southwest, the Bay of Bengal on the east, and the Indian Ocean proper to the south. The northern frontiers of India are defined largely by the Himalayan mountain range , where the country borders China , Bhutan , and Nepal. In the far northeast, the Chin Hills and Kachin Hills , deeply forested mountainous regions, separate India from Burma. The Ganga is the longest river originating in India. The Ganga — Brahmaputra system occupies most of northern, central, and eastern India, while the Deccan Plateau occupies most of southern India. The climate across India ranges from equatorial in the far south, to alpine and tundra in the upper regions of the Himalayas.
India is one of the seventh largest countries in World in terms of area. It is situated on the Indian plate which is the plate of Indo-Australian. The entire area of India is 32 lakh, 87 thousand, two hundred and sixty three square kilometer. From East to West, area of India is 2 thousand nine hundred thirty three Kilometer.
